FDC Riser Installation
Underground fire line and riser stubbed up for the sprinkler sub.
Overview
FDC Risers.
The fire department connection and the underground fire line are where site utilities hand off to the building's fire protection system. Castello Brothers installs the underground fire line and stubs up the FDC riser so the sprinkler contractor has a clean, restrained connection point to build from.
We run the fire service from the tap on the water main, restrain and block the line, and bring the riser up at the right location and elevation. The stub is set plumb and protected so the fire protection contractor can tie in above grade without rework.
Because the fire line is a life-safety system, it gets restrained, tested and inspected. We coordinate the tie-in with the domestic water and hydrant work, support the required flushing and pressure testing and hand off a connection that is ready for the sprinkler sub and the inspector.
What's Included
Scope of Work
- Underground fire service line from the main

Why It Matters
Built Right the
First Time.
- 01
Clean Handoff
The riser is stubbed up plumb, at the right location and elevation, so the sprinkler contractor ties in above grade without rework.
- 02
Restrained & Tested
A life-safety line gets full thrust restraint and supports the pressure and flush testing that the fire code and inspector require.
- 03
Coordinated With Water
Installed alongside the domestic water, hydrants and mains it shares a system with, so the whole water package stays coordinated.
- 04
Ready for Inspection
Set up so the fire line and riser pass inspection and do not become the item holding up the fire protection acceptance.
How We Work
From First Cut
to Final Backfill.
- 01
Tap & Route the Fire Line
We connect to the water main, route the underground fire service to the building and restrain and block the line against thrust.
- 02
Stub Up the Riser
The FDC riser is brought up plumb at the planned location and elevation, set for a clean tie-in by the sprinkler contractor.
- 03
Protect & Support Rough-In
We protect the stub and support any backflow or vault rough-in the plans require so the above-grade connection is ready.
- 04
Flush, Test & Hand Off
We flush and support pressure testing of the fire line, then hand off a restrained, inspected connection point to the fire protection sub.

Common Questions
Good to
Know.
Bidding a job or have a question about this scope? Call us at (469) 245-1215 and talk to the people doing the work.
Where does your scope end and the sprinkler contractor's begin?
We install the underground fire line and stub up the riser to a clean, restrained connection point. The fire protection (sprinkler) contractor ties in above grade and builds the interior system from there.
Do you coordinate with the fire protection contractor?
Yes. We confirm the riser location and elevation with the sprinkler contractor and the plans so the above-grade tie-in lands exactly where they need it, with no rework.
Is the fire line pressure tested?
The underground fire line is a life-safety system, so it is restrained and supports the required flushing and pressure testing before it is accepted and connected.
